Almost ‘Ready’: Kathryn Newton Joins Samara Weaving on the Run in ‘Ready or Not’ Sequel Photos

Samara Weaving may not be a newlywed anymore, but she’s still on the run in images from the set of the Ready or Not sequel.
In pictures published Monday, Weaving appears to still be wearing the gore-soaked wedding dress she sported throughout 2019’s Ready or Not. This time, she’s not running from marriage and danger on her own – Kathryn Newton is holding her hand as the pair tear across a lawn.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come also stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, Sean Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and Olivia Cheng, as well as director David Cronenberg.
The sequel is being directed by Radio Silence, the team consisting of Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and takes place after the events of the original, when Grace (Weaving) has triumphed over her now former in-laws who tried to kill her in a post-nuptial family ritual.
Radio Silence told People magazine that Ready or Not 2 “goes hand in hand with the first in an unexpected yet seamless way.”
“It’s exciting to see Grace into a new f*cked-up situation that deepens her story and her character, and we wanted to make sure that this movie wasn’t just more of the same,” they said in an interview. “We put a ton of love into this movie to make it a worthy sequel that we’re hoping fans of the first movie — and people who are getting to know Grace for the first time — will really love.”
According to Weaving, the sequel is “so unhinged, absolutely cooked — you’re gonna love it.” She jokes, “Those sicko writers came up with a way in that’s somehow both a natural progression and very surprising.”
Newton’s character in the film hasn’t been named, but looking at the People spread, it’s obvious that she and Weaving share a lot of scenes together facing the same group of adversaries.
Newton said Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin wrote her character specifically with her in mind after they worked together on 2024’s vampire movie Abigail, and that her character “is a little like me,” saying she “causes some problems — but the fun kind, I promise.”
Radio Silence said that the other new cast members have added a lot to the next chapter of Grace’s story. “We can’t say enough about how much we love the ensemble in this movie,” Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin said. “We think everyone brought something genuinely special to their roles, and we’re so thrilled with how scary, funny and bizarre this cast of characters are.”
