‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Teaser Proves You Can’t Hide from Family- if They’re Willing to Hunt You Down
Life’s Still Unfair, says the sub-head under the title Malcolm in the Middle‘s reboot trailer tells us.
In the trailer for the four-episode event which will stream on Hulu, a grown-up Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) must face his family for the first time in a long time, and he’s not too happy about it. The show’s theme song, “Boss of Me,” (performed by They Might Be Giants over the series’ run) plays as Malcolm tells the audience how “fantastic” his life is now. “All I had to do is stay away from my family,” he adds.
“After shielding himself from his family for over a decade, Malcolm is dragged back into their orbit when Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party,” confirms the show’s logline.

Life is unfair, the new version of the theme song reminds us.
“Malcolm has been intentionally hiding himself from this family for years,” Kaczmarek as Lois exclaims at another point in the trailer. Malcolm’s girlfriend, Tristan (Kiana Madeira), tells him in the trailer that he can’t hide from his family and deny its existence forever.
“Worked perfectly till they showed up,” he retorts.
Disney last year ordered the short-run revival of Malcolm in the Middle with Muniz, Cranston and Kaczmarek reprising their original roles. Reese (Justin Berfield) and Francis (Christopher Masterson) are returning as brothers Reese and Francis, respectively. Malcolm’s other brother Dewey, who is not seen in the teaser, will be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark. Erik Per Sullivan played Dewey in the original series but isn’t returning for the revival.
New cast members include Vaughan Murrae as Kelly, Malcolm’s youngest sibling) and Keeley Karsten, playing Malcolm’s daughter Leah. Series creator Linwood Boomer returns as writer and executive producer.
The original series premiered on Fox in January 2000 and ran for seven seasons, with the show earning seven Emmys, including writing and directing awards in 2000 and 2001. The limited series revival from 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios, will premiere on Hulu on April 10th, 2026.
