They played the music, lit the lights, raised the curtain, and maybe even got things started for a Muppet Show revival at the House of Mouse.

Disney, which now owns the Muppet franchise, reported that the one-off Muppet Show special that aired on ABC on February 4th and streamed on Disney+ has been viewed by 7.58 million people. The Muppets Instagram account posted a congratulatory thank you video with the news on Friday.

The special, which starred guest host Sabrina Carpenter and featured Maya Rudolph and executive producer Seth Rogan, was floated as a potential pilot for a revival of the Muppet variety show which aired in syndication on US television from 1976 to 1981.

Previous attempts to put the Muppets back on television on a regular basis have been unsuccessful, and none of them featured the variety show concept that made the show beloved 50 years ago. The special also received great reviews and an astounding 98% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, leading to further speculation that a series order is likely.

The special, which featured Carpenter performing musical numbers with Kermit, Miss Piggy and a rowdy group of “Manchild” Muppets, is still available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu.
