Mystery No More: McKenna Grace Joins Netflix’s ‘Scooby Doo’ Origin Story Series as Daphne

The Mystery Machine now has at least one passenger.
McKenna Grace (Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) has been cast as Daphne Blake in the upcoming Netflix series Scooby-Doo: Origins. The eight-episode series will focus on the Mystery Inc. gang’s formation.
The official logline reads, “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
It won’t be the first time Grace has “played” the character – she voiced a younger version of the character for 2020’s Scoob! And back in November of 2024, Grace posted a picture of herself in costume as Daphne on Instagram.
Grace was nominated for an Emmy in 2021 for her guest performance on The Handmaid’s Tale, and appeared in Captain Marvel, The Haunting of Hill House, and Anniversary. She was most recently seen in Regretting You. She can next be seen in Scream 7 this month and will appear in Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping in November.
Scooby-Doo: Origins starts filming in April in Atlanta and should wrap by September. The release date hasn’t been announced, and no other cast members (aside from Frank Welker as the voice of Scooby-Doo) have been named.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as writers and showrunners and will also executive produce along with André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner for Midnight Radio and Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman for Berlanti productions.
