Taking Flight Again: More High-Flying Adventure for Roz and Brightbill in ‘The Wild Robot Escapes’

There’s another chapter to the story of Roz the robot and Brightbill the goose; first told in 2024’s animated feature film The Wild Robot.
The Wild Robot, based on the book of the same name by Peter Brown, was a box office success and critical darling after its release two years ago. Now the company is adapting the next book in Brown’s series as a sequel, which, if the title is pulled from the book, will be called The Wild Robot Escapes.
The Wild Robot featured the voices of Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry, Ving Rhames, Mark Hamill and Catherine O’Hara and had an ending that didn’t necessarily call for a second movie, but with the book sequel ready for adaptation, there was always a good chance a sequel would be made.
In Brown’s second book, the middle part of a trilogy, Roz and her adopted bird-son Brightbill try to escape a dairy farm and return to their island.
The sequel will see Troy Quane, one of the directors behind the Oscar-nominated Nimona, take over directing duties from Chris Sanders (who will write the screenplay to the sequel), along with Heidi Jo Gilbert, who worked on the first Wild Robot.
The Wild Robot grossed $320 million globally, secured three Academy Award nominations, including best animated feature, was nominated for three BAFTAs, was awarded Best Animated Feature by the Critics’ Choice Awards, and picked up “100 additional awards from film industry guilds, critic groups, and film festivals around the world,” according to DreamWorks Animation.
No new or returning cast members have been announced, and there is no release date as of this writing.
