Mr. Not-So-Nice Guy: Keanu Reeves Embarks on an Apology Tour as a Recovering Jerk in ‘Outcome’
On of the so-called nicest guy in Hollywood, Keanu Reeves, plays against type in Apple TV’s Outcome, coming next month.
In the film, directed by Jonah Hill who also stars, Reeves plays the comically-named Reef Hawk, an actor famous for leading “three of the biggest franchises in film history.” But Hawk had to drop out of the public eye for a year or five, because of a heroin addiction he wanted to keep secret.
But then, according to the film’s description, he “must dive into the depths of his hidden demons after he is extorted with a mysterious video that’s sure to shatter his image and end his career. With the support of his lifelong besties, Kyle (Cameron Diaz) and Xander (Matt Bomer), along with his crisis lawyer, Ira (Hill), Reef embarks on a soul-searching journey to make amends with anyone he could have possibly wronged in hopes of identifying the blackmailer.”

In the trailer, released Tuesday, Hawk asks his daughter who could hate him enough to release this comeback-ending video, and she rattles off a list that seems never ending. “Your old manager, your old trainer, your new trainer, your old pool guy, your old old pool guys, your mom… Then I have a separate list for like directors, actors, costume designers, hair and makeup people, craft services…and like executives that you’ve worked with if you want me to start on that.”
With a crisis team that includes Roy Wood Jr., Laverne Cox and Atsuko Okatsuka on his team, so begins Reef Hawk’s apology tour. One of the stops is director Martin Scorsese, who questions the motivation behind Hawk’s apology, and then he apologizes to his mother in a restaurant.
Reef Hawk’s mom is played by the legendary Susan Lucci, better known as Erica Kane from the defunct daytime drama All My Children. Looking every bit as glamourous as her soapy alter ego, Lucci as Hawk’s mother calls cut on his act of contrition when her sponsored product’s label isn’t showing up on the camera recording everything.

Outcome also stars David Spade, Welker White, Kaia Gerber, and Ivy Wolk. The film was written by Hill with Ezra Woods.
Outcome will be available to stream on Apple TV+ on April 10th.
