Ryan Reynolds has plans for Deadpool, but they don’t include headlining another superhero movie.

Reynolds, speaking on Today’s Sunday Sitdown Live, said he had been working on new Deadpool material, but with a caveat.

“I have some stuff kind of written,” Reynolds said, adding, “I don’t think I’m going to center him again. I think he’s a supporting character, you know?”

Deadpool, also known as Wade Wilson, was last seen in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine with Hugh Jackman. A fourth Deadpool movie has yet to be announced.

According to Reynolds, Deadpool is “a guy that’s great in a group.” However, Reynolds denies that he has joined the cavalcade of MCU regulars and hangers-on for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters in December.

Then again, Deadpool is tied closely with the X-Men, many of whom will appear in Doomsday. Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier/Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Channing Tatum (Gambit) are set to reprise their roles in the film directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely wrote the script which is said to be a farewell to the current lineup of superpowered mutant heroes before they get the reboot treatment from director Jake Schreier.
