Disney+ reportedly won a bidding war for a streaming series based on Casper, Steven Spielberg’s 1995 live-action film take on kiddie cartoon character Casper the Friendly Ghost.

According to Deadline, Disney prevailed in a five-way bidding war for the project, which will again be produced by Spielberg along with Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston, who also produce Goosebumps for Disney+.

No details about casting or plot are available yet, so it’s unknown if genre faves Ricci and Sawa will reunite as adults for the reboot. We do know that Letterman and Winston are handling scriptwriting, and Letterman will direct.

Casper the movie hailed from Universal Pictures and starred Christina Ricci, Bill Pullman, Eric Idle and Cathy Moriarity, with Devon Sawa playing the pre-dead version of the ghost voiced by Malachi Pearson. The film was directed by Brad Silberling and written by Sherri Stone and Deanna Oliver, and was about a teenage girl and her widowed dad who moved into a mansion haunted by the ghost of a boy named Casper and his poltergeist uncles. It spawned two direct-to-video prequels and an animated series.
