You can’t fault a shark for doing what comes naturally.

Humans, however, can choose to be evil, and as we see in the trailer for Chum, coming next month from IFC, that’s bad news for some unlucky people stranded on a boat in shark-infested waters.

The logline for Chum reads, “A dream destination wedding in Malta explodes into chaos when a bloodthirsty shark attacks and a sinister fisherman with a hidden agenda turns the celebration into a deadly trap. Forced between open water and a relentless human predator, the wedding party must fight for survival as secrets surface and loyalties shatter. As the newlyweds are pushed to their limits, they’re forced to confront the cracks in their relationship to determine who lives, who dies and who stays married.”

As we see in the trailer, when the chums…er, friends are out at sea, their boat catches fire and sinks, but fortunately (not really) they are rescued by a nearby boater. But rather than take them back to shore as he promised, he drugs the group, ties them up, and one by one uses them as bait to attract a killer shark with a taste for human flesh.

Chum stars Alice Eve, Eric Michael Cole, Elle Haymond, Sarah Siadat, Johnny Gaffney, Lisa Yaro, and Jim Klock. Jonathan Zuck directs from a story by James Kondelik, Ryan R. Johnson and Dick Grunert. Zuck and Joe Leone wrote the screenplay.

Don’t let the poster art fool you – the shark is the weapon, not the villain.

Chum swims into theaters beginning June 6th.
