“Two people meet at a wedding and fall for each other” is a fairly standard rom-com meet cute but Sarah Michelle Gellar’s new movie is going to add an interesting twist: the people in question are the Grim Reaper and the Devil.

In Thud, coming from director Mali Elfman (Next Exit), Gellar is the scythe-wielding harvester of lives. She meets the Devil, to be played by Rudy Pankow (Outer Banks) at a three-day destination wedding, falling in love after colliding at the event, where they’ve each come to sow their own chaos. The original screenplay was written by Noga Pnueli, who wrote the screenplay for a 2022 film that was titled Meet Cute.

Radio Silence, the two-person production team of Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, will be producing along with Derek Bishé and David Grove Churchill Viste. Gellar, famous for her portrayal of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on television for 7 seasons, also starred in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come for Radio Silence and Searchlight Pictures.

Thud will film in Los Angeles, but no release date has been set. Other casting information is not available at this time.
