It’s the End of the World, Again: Marvel Star Simu Liu Added to Cast of Disaster Flick ‘Homewrecker’

Everyone loves a great end of the world story, if some of the movies from this decade are any indication.
And it’s not surprising, given that we’ve suffered through a recent global pandemic and considerably more fascist-style governance than most of us (but not all, alas) are comfortable with in the past few years. Whether it’s a plague (The Dog Stars), a meteor (Don’t Look Up), AI and robots (The Mitchells vs the Machines), aliens (A Quiet Place), zombies (28 Years Later), or the consequences of our own mismanagement of the world we live on (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), we love to watch a fictional take on how our planet may cease to be.
There’s one more we can add to the list: Simu Liu, Marvel’s Shang-Chi, is joining Allison Williams (M3GAN) and Michelle Randolph (Scream 7) in director Xavier Gens’ sci-fi survival thriller, Homewrecker.
The synopsis for the original screenplay, written by Elisa Bell and Travis Gordon, is rather vague: “During a heart-breaking domestic revelation, three star-crossed Americans are suddenly forced to work together to survive a terrifying unexplained global event that threatens to destroy life as they know it.”
Anaïs Parello will also appear in the film. Production is set to begin in the next few weeks in Paris, France. Though no other plot details have been revealed, the film is said to be somewhat like 10 Cloverfield Lane.
Gens is best known for directing the Netflix shark thriller Under Paris, along with genre movies like Gangs of London, Hitman, and Frontier(s).
Liu is set to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, marking the first time his character has been on screen since 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
No premiere date has been announced yet, but the film is expected to be released theatrically.
