You could say Disney caught ’em all.

One global media empire joined with another this week as Disney forged a global distribution deal with Pokémon Company International. The partnership was announced during a panel at the Pokémon XP conference on Friday at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

The announcement included a first look at the first new Pokémon program to be released on Disney+. A brief teaser trailer was released for Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, a stop-motion animation series produced by the Aardman Animations studio, home of Chicken Run and the Wallace and Gromit series, among others.

The show’s official description reads, “Sirfetch’d and Pichu embark on an epic journey through the Galar Region. Together, they set out on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region. Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown where peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them.”

The teaser shows the titular Sirfetch’d, a bird who wields a scallion rather than a sword, and Pichu, the unevolved baby version of Pikachu, meeting up with random Pokémon characters and having good-natured fun. At the end, the two find a sign with ‘2027’ painted on it, which is when the series will debut on Disney+.

In addition, the agreement includes the broadcast rights to the program that started it all: Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, which follows Ash and Pikachu as they fight Team Rocket and that dastardly feline Meowth. Pokémon the Series: The Beginning is the first title to launch under the new global distribution agreement. The series airs on Disney XD and is now streaming on Disney+.

Along with Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, these series are powerful additions to Disney XD and Disney+.”
