American Idol proved that even after all these years, it can still make us flip our collective wigs during performances.

This is Hollywood Week on the veteran completion show, and contestants were paired up to collaborate on duets. AI judge Katy Perry literally flipped off her wig at one point, while listening to vocalists Grace Kinstler and Alyssa Wray as they stunned the panel with their incredible duet of the Bruno Mars song “Grenade” on Monday’s show.

The pair blew the the roof off the Dolby Theatre with their powerful performance, causing Katy Perry to rip her wig off, saying, “alright, our job is done here. Show’s over. Everybody go home!”

Claudia Conway wasn’t as lucky, though, and her journey came to an end, but not without some praise from Perry for taking control of her life.

The 16-year-old daughter of Kellyanne Conway, Donald Trump’s former senior counselor, left the show on Monday night’s episode.

“You’re just coming to life. I can see it in you,” said Perry, who continued, “and you’re taking control of your life – and I applaud you for that.”

Contestant Funke Lagoke never got to hear how she did, because after she and Ronda Felton took to the stage to perform a duet of “Tell Him,” originally recorded by Barbra Streisand, she passed out just as judge Lionel Richie started his critique of their “trainwreck” of a performance.

Lagoke fainted at that point, face-planting on the stage floor with such blunt force that the thump echoed throughout the Dolby Theater. This wasn’t the first time that Idol viewers had witnessed a stressed contestant faint away, but Lagoke’s might have been the most frightening tumble to date. Felton rushed to her duet partner, Perry was horrified, covering her face with her hands, as she, Richie, and fellow judge Luke Bryan rushed to the stage in advance of medics who quickly arrived on the scene.

Funke was taken by ambulance to the hospital for dehydration treatment and possible stitches in her chin. Contestants were reassured that Funke would be able to return to the competition. According to Richie, the judges had been planning all along to put Felton and Lagoke through to the next round, despite his initial “trainwreck” comment.

And finally, in what may or may not be news, Perry hinted at a potential future collaboration between her and former rival Taylor Swift in a brief aside to the other judges.

While watching the duets, the pop singer name-checked Swift and suggested the two would do something incredible if they ever collaborated.

Richie and Bryan didn’t ask her to elaborate, so this could just be a meaningless comment. But after this wacky Hollywood Week, don’t be surprised if it means something.
