Justin Bieber Drops Easter Surprise: 6 Song Gospel EP Simply Called ‘Freedom’
The Easter Bunny brought more than eggs on Easter Sunday for all Beliebers.
In a surprise move, Justin Bieber dropped a new EP of Gospel songs called Freedom. Only three weeks ago he dropped the full-length album Justice on March 18th, and a year after releasing his Changes LP. Justice debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Not only that, but the album’s newest single “Peaches,” featuring Giveon and Daniel Caesar, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, making Bieber the first solo male artist to debut at the top of Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 simultaneously.
The 27-year-old pop superstar announced the news with a minimalist Instagram post Sunday afternoon, featuring just the word “Freedom” against a black background. He captioned the post, “Freedom on all platforms.”
The EP features six songs including the title track, “Freedom” with Beam, as well as “All She Wrote” (feat. Brandon Love and Chandler Moore),” “We’re in This Together,” “Where You Go I Follow” (feat. Pink Sweats, Chandler Moore and Judah Smith), “Where Do I Fit In” (feat. Tori Kelly, Chandler Moore and Judah Smith) and “Afraid to Say” (feat. Lauren Walters).”
In recent days, he posted several pictures of himself in a recording studio working on music, which gave fans some clue that new songs could be coming in the future. Few were expecting new music this soon after his last best-selling album, though.
Before the announcement, Bieber took to Instagram to share an Easter message that was a mixture of religious sentiment and commerce.
“Happy Easter, Jesus rose from the Dead. @simplegospel is dropping these limited JESUS ROSE FROM THE DEAD HOODIES, T’S, AND SHORTS AVAILABLE NOW BUT NOT FOR LONG,” he wrote.
