He really was a Space Ranger!

Pixar released the first footage of Lightyear, the movie providing us with origin story for the spacier half of the Buzz and Woody duo Wednesday,

The trailer, set to the strains of David Bowie’s “Starman”, gave us the first we’ve seen of the character that inspired the toy voiced by Tim Allen across the four Toy Story movies and assorted specials. The actual Buzz will be voiced by Chris Evans in the movie, although he utters only one word in the trailer. (It’s “and”, as in “to infinity and…”. The quote is never finished in the trailer.)

The movie shows Buzz as a daring young pilot, blasting off as part of the Universe Protection Unit of the Space Ranger Corps from the Intergalactic Alliance. Even more impressive is the full head of hair he sports under that helmet.

The movie was first announced at a Disney investor event last year as part of the overstuffed slate of projects expanding the universes of all its franchises. Finding Dory co-director Angus McLane is helming this film.

Chris Evans took to Twitter to share how pleased he was to be a part of the project, saying “…nothing has ever made me feel more joy and gratitude than knowing I’m a part of this.”

When his casting was announced, Evans promised that the film “doesn’t step on a single thing” fans loved about the franchise.

Lightyear is currently scheduled to be released June 17th, 2022.
