The DCEU introduced a new Batman this week, and no, we don’t mean Robert Pattinson. It’s someone even better!

The same weekend the latest dark and violent iteration of The Batman hit theaters, DC dropped a new trailer showing the lighter side of the Caped Crusader, this time featuring Keanu Reeves as the voice of the stoic crime-fighter.

The animated DC League of Super-Pets, which opens in theaters on May 20th, has Kevin Hart voicing Ace the Bat-Hound, and also features Dwayne Johnson as the voice of Krypto the Superdog and John Krasinski as his owner, Superman.

In the movie, after the Justice League heroes are kidnapped by Lex Luthor (Marc Maron), their super-powered pets have step up to rescue them. The DC League of Super-Pets lineup includes Green Lantern’s squirrel Chip (Diego Luna), the Flash’s turtle Merton (Natasha Lyonne), and Wonder Woman’s pig PB (Vanessa Bayer).

DC League of Super-Pets looks like it is going to have a little fun with Batman’s dark and embittered persona; Reeves’ Batman at one point in the clip growls that he works alone… except for when it’s with Robin, or Alfred, or Commissioner Gordon, or “whoever Morgan Freeman played.”

Though Warner Bros. Animation has consistently been producing animated films set in the DC universe, they are usually direct-to-video releases that rarely get a theatrical run. And most of those are not geared toward the younger demographic, usually bearing R-rated titles like Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, so this is an unusual turn towards a family film from the DCEU, not seen since Teen Titans Go! To the Movies was released theatrically in 2018.

DC League of Super-Pets has been in the works since 2018, and though it was initially scheduled to premiere in 2021, it later shifted to this year. The next releases for DC will be Black Adam, also starring Johnson, on July 29th, The Flash with Ezra Miller on November 4th, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on December 16th.
