The Addams Family began life as a cartoon (drawn by Charles Addams) in The New Yorker and has since had many representations: a live action television show in the 60s, an animated series, live action and animated movies, and even a video game. Now Tim Burton is looking to develop a live action series for television again.

Deadline reports that Burton is in talks to executive produce and maybe even direct episodes, with former Smallville execs Alfred Gough and Miles Millar as head writers and showrunners. MGM TV owns the rights and would finance the development of the series.

This series is said to be set in the present time and the stories would be told from the perspective of daughter Wednesday Addams.

Burton, known for kooky, weird horror movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands, seems a perfect fit for the “mysterious and spooky, all together ooky” Addams Family.

Burton has done television before, for example the animated Beetlejuice series, which ran from 89-91. In addition to Smallville, Miller and Gough’s credits include Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 and the Shanghai Noon franchise.
