50 Cent is bringing is 100% hit-producing batting average to television.

The rapper/producer/actor is at work on a television adaptation of Eminem’s autobiographical film 8 Mile, which came out in 2002 and was directed by Curtis Hanson. The film was loosely based on Eminem’s life and rise to stardom.

In the film, Eminem plays Jimmy, a white rapper that uses the stage name B-Rabbit. The movie chronicles his journey as he launches a hip-hop career. The film also starred Kim Basinger, Brittany Murphy, and Mekhi Phifer. Eminem won an Oscar for Best Original Song, with the movie’s theme, “Lose Yourself.”

50 Cent, who produces Power and BMF for Starz, made an appearance on Big Boy TV that he is collaborating with Eminem to bring the series to the small screen. The series will focus on the early years of the rapper’s life.

“I’m gonna bring his 8 Mile to television. We’re in motion,” he said. “It’s gonna be big. I ain’t got no duds. I’m battin’ a hundred, I’m battin’ a hundred.” 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, said that it’s important for the rapper’s origin story to be told.

“I think it should be there for his legacy because it’s important to me that they understand it.”

50 Cent explained that he sees the show as a modern retelling of the film, comparing it to Bel-Air, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot that debuted on Peacock last year.

“I wanna be able to show and offer a lot more details, things that you would say in an interview or different things that you’ve already used, that you put out there, and stuff like that,” he said. “You’ll see those things kind of surface and the temperament of the characters.” 

50 Cent used 8 Mile as a template when making 2004’s Get Rich or Die Trying, his feature film debut that used element’s of his own life story in an otherwise fictional tale.

It’s a good bet he’ll make the show for Starz. Even though 50 Cent did not renew his exclusive deal with the Starz network last year, he’s still working with the network on several projects. Last month, he and Starz announced the development of a new series titled Fightland within the high-stakes, cash-rich, dangerous world of British boxing. 

50 cent produced the Power series and its multiple spinoffs Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Power Book IV: Force for Starz, and season 2 of BMF premiered on the net this week. However, his G-Unit Film & Television is producing the upcoming animated series Trill League, an adaptation of Anthony Piper’s webcomic about black superheroes, for BET+.
