Helicopter Parents Hire Jennifer Lawrence To “Date” Their Son In New Comedy From Sony
Yes, the word date is in quotes.
In the upcoming comedy No Hard Feelings, Jennifer Lawrence stars as Maddie, an Uber driver whose car gets impounded just as she’s in danger of losing her house. She decides to try her luck at high-class sex work, answering a Craigslist ad posted by helicopter parents, played by Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti, looking to help their 19-year-old son (Andrew Feldman) lose his virginity before he heads off to Princeton in the fall.
The ad, which promises a 2004 Buick Regal to anyone who would “date” their son is too hard to resist. Percy is no sure thing, though, despite Maddie’s varied yet futile efforts to seduce him. Despite the raunchy premise, the movie looks to have a sweet side to it, as Maddie grows closer to her intended ‘victim’.
Earlier this week, the movie’s producers went viral by publishing the Craigslist ad as seen in the movie, only without any context.
The response back from the email read “Hiyaa! Thanks for your interest in ‘dating’ our son. We have had a lot of responses already, but plan to make our final decision Thursday, March 9th. We’ll be in touch soon! Allison & Laird,”
Still, some people were concerned, asking if the advertisement might actually be for human trafficking. One commenter posited that if it was “an ad for sexual solicitation [it] should be removed. If its an ad for a new tv show/movie then it is done in poor taste. Its currently making its rounds through reddit as people keep sharing it and are shocked by it. Probably the intention of the advertiser.”
But as of March 9th, the cat is fully out of the bag and the ad’s true intentions are no longer a mystery.
No Hard Feelings also stars Natalie Morales, Hasan Minhaj and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and was written by Lawrence’s good friend Gene Stupnitsky along with John Phillips. It was produced by Lawrence, Alex Saks, Naomi Odenkirk, Marc Provissiero and Justine Ciarrocchi. Executive producers are Phillips and Kerry Orent.
The comedy, which has not received a rating (though it seems destined for an R designation) premieres in theaters on June 23rd, 2023.
