Earth vs. Everyone Else: ‘Elio’ Trailer Shows One Little Boy Fighting to Defend Our Planet Against The Rest of the Universe
All rise! The case of Earth vs. the Universe is now in session.
Pixar released a trailer for its next film, a sci-fi story called Elio, on Tuesday. The movie is about a young boy who is abducted by an interplanetary group known as the Communiverse. Fortunately for Elio, the aliens don’t want to experiment on him. But unfortunately, after he pretends to be the leader of Earth he must defend his home planet against an intergalactic tribunal.
The movie’s official description reads, “For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers—in Disney and Pixar’s all-new movie Elio, the universe calls back! The original feature film introduces Elio, an underdog with an active imagination who finds himself inadvertently beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador to the rest of the universe, and completely unprepared for that kind of pressure, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, survive a series of formidable trials and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be.”
Elio is directed by Adrian Molina, screenwriter on Coco, and stars Yonas Kibreab in the lead role, alongside names like Jameela Jamil and Brad Garrett as alien ambassadors and America Ferrera as Elio’s mother.
The film is produced by Mary Alice Drumm, who associate-produced Coco, and is set for release in theaters on March 1st, 2024. This is Pixar’s 28th feature film, and this trailer comes in advance of their 27th film, Elemental, which opens Friday. Elemental stars Leah Lewis as Ember and Mamoudou Athie as Wade in a fire-meets-water love story where literal opposites attract.
