Valak’s Back: Taissa Farmiga Steps Back In The ‘Conjuring’ Habit for ‘The Nun II’ This September
Get ready for jump scares galore in theaters this September.
“I think there’s something here that’s not meant to be,” confesses a character in New Line Cinemas’ new trailer for The Nun II, the latest effort in its top-grossing horror franchise based on 2013’s The Conjuring.
That something is a demon done up in nun drag, and it’s after Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) and Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) again. The two star in the sequel to 2018’s global blockbuster The Nun, which came in as the highest-grossing film out of The Conjuring universe to date.
Directed by Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) from a script by Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing (Eli, The Autopsy of Jane Doe) and Akela Cooper (M3GAN), the sequel picks up in 1956 following the murder of a priest as Sister Irene must fight off the demon Valak, played by Bonnie Aarons. Jonas Bloquet also reprises his role as Maurice. Storm Reid also stars as a new character, along with Katelyn Rose Downey as Sophie and Anna Popplewell as Marcella.
Atomic Monster’s James Wan and The Safran Company’s Peter Safran will produce. Wan and Safran have produced all eight of The Conjuring franchise films, including the Annabelle series and The Curse of La Llorona. Warner Bros. is distributing the film for New Line.
Four of The Conjuring movies rank in the top ten horror movies of all time, having grossed more than $300M worldwide each: The Nun at $365.5M, The Conjuring 2 at $322M, The Conjuring with $320M, and Annabelle: Creation at $307M. All seven of the currently released films are among the top 30 for horror movie box office gross.
New Line unleashes The Nun II on theater-goers on September 8th.
