Breakups aren’t easy, even for pirates.

Max has announced that the second season of original series Our Flag Means Death, starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi, will be released on October 5th. The streamer also released a teaser for the new season of the period pirate rom-com series that was celebrated for its tender and sweet handling of an unlikely LGBTQ love story.

Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the life of Stede Bonnet, a would-be pirate of the 1700s. The series follows Stede as he becomes captain of the ship Revenge and encounters the notorious Captain Blackbeard (Waititi), with whom he finds love while at sea.

In the show’s first season, Stede and Blackbeard began an improbable friendship that moved from mentorship to romance on the high seas, which blew up at season’s end. Max’s second season teaser shows the two captains dealing with heartbreak in different ways: Stede is wistfully writing messages to be bottled and thrown out to sea. Meanwhile, Blackbeard has returned to his plaguing pirate ways by sowing chaos, hurling knives at his crew, and even crashing a wedding at sea.
