Don’t look for Lando Calrissian on your television screen just yet.

Stephen Glover, brother of Donald Glover who was set to bring back the character he played six years ago in the putative series, first let the cat out of the bag during a recent appearance on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, telling the host, “It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information.”

Stephen, who with Donald Glover was set to write the project, had no more to say about the change, but Lucasfilm confirmed the news afterwards.

Glover debuted as a young Lando Calrissian in the 2019 Star Wars prequel film Solo, which was a notable box office disappointment for Disney and Lucasfilm, though it grossed $392.9M globally. Billy Dee Williams first essayed the character in 1990’s Empire Strikes Back.

Little is known about the proposed plot of the Lando project, or how it fits in the Star Wars timeline. It’s not even certain that Glover will play the iconic character, though it seems likely that Donald Glover’s involvement as a writer means he will return as the star.

In other Donald Glover news, it was also announced Thursday that his other highly anticipated project, a series based on the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, will debut on Amazon Prime Video sometime in 2024, which is a delay from November of this year, the initially-announced premiere date. The series, based on the Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt spy thriller from 2005, will also star Maya Erskine. Michaela Coel, John Turturro, Paul Dano, Parker Posey, and Wagner Moura.
