But Wait, There’s More: Britney Spears “Excited” About Penning a Follow-Up to ‘The Woman in Me’
We’re still feeling the shockwaves from Britney Spears just-released memoir, The Woman in Me, but Spears says there’s more to the story.
In a since-deleted Instagram post, Spears said that the second volume of her memoir will be out in 2024.
“Humor is the cure to everything !!! Play on !!! Volume 2 will be released next year … get ready !!!” read her caption of a video of a man hitting a drum with a gavel-like instrument. The post, added to the star’s official Instagram page, went up Saturday but was gone by the next day.
It’s not the first time the idea of a sequel to the best-selling tell-all has come up, though. On Tuesday, US Weekly reported that there was another book in the works, quoting a source, who said, “Britney is already excited at the possibility of a second book, Writing this one has been so freeing for her and a great experience, she’s eager to do it again.”
That article was published the same day Gallery Books, an imprint of publishing house Simon & Schuster, released Spears’ book. The reviews for the book have been generally positive, and Spears’ disclosures have been tabloid fodder ever since.
In a press release, Gallery Books called The Woman in Me “a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope,” adding the book “illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms.”
The source speaking with US reports that the book’s “pre-sales have been gigantic,” and that “a second book feels like a win/win for her.”
Variety has another take on the topic of a sequel though, reporting that sources close to Spears say that there is no Volume 2 in the works. Time will tell, of course.
Many of the book’s more salacious passages, like her contentious relationship with Justin Timberlake, were leaked due to prior to publication on social media. Spears addressed the leaks on her Instagram, saying she feels freer with the book’s contents out in the open.
“It’s a beautiful clean slate from here!!!” Spears wrote. “I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life!!! Either way, that is the last of it and s–t happens. This is actually a book I didn’t know needed to be written, although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future.”
