They Follow is the title of the long-awaited sequel to the 2014 cult hit It Follows. Of course it is.

The film, announced Tuesday by Neon, the studio that brought us the Oscar-winning Parasite, will reunite star Maika Monroe and director David Robert Mitchell from the original.

Mitchell will return as both writer and director for the sequel, which is set to start production in 2024. The sequel reunites the filmmaking team with Neon CEO Tom Quinn, whose previous company, RADiUS, released It Follows in theaters. The film was a success, tallying an impressive $23 million in global box office receipts – a tidy return on its $2 million budget.

Monroe will reprise her role as Jay Height, a woman who is stalked by a supernatural force after she has sex with someone who is “infected” by the supernatural equivalent of an STD. The only way for Jay to survive is to have sex with someone else, who then becomes the new target of the malevolent entity.

In addition to It Follows, Mitchell wrote, produced, and directed 2018’s Under the Silver Lake, which starred Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough. Since 2014, Monroe has turned up in GretaHot Summer Nights, Villains, Honey Boy, and Watcher. She is co-starring in the upcoming Oz Perkins movie Longlegs, which also stars Nicholas Cage.

No news yet on when They Follow will stalk you at your local theater.
