Getting to Know You: In ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ Trailer, Two Lonely Assassins Meet, Marry…and Fall in Love?
Meet Cute turns deadly in the new trailer for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, coming to Prime in February.
From co-creators and executive producers Donald Glover (Swarm, Atlanta) and Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo), the series stars Glover as John Smith and Maya Erskine (PEN15) as Jane Smith, their working pseudonyms.
According to the show’s official description, in this version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, “two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?”
“I have to be clear: I’m not in this for the romance,” Erskine’s character warns Glover’s character in the teaser trailer. But perhaps both will be in it for the sex, as bullets and bombs and bad guys draw them closer to each other.
The show is part of Glover’s overall deal with Amazon Studios. Francesca Sloane will serve as showrunner.
Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Sarah Paulson, Sharon Horgan, Ron Perlman, Billy Campbell, and Úrsula Corberó have been cast as guest stars.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith debuts on February 2nd.
