A Touch of the Stingray: ‘The Fantastic Four’ Taps Paul Walter Hauser of ‘Cobra Kai’ for Mystery Role
The Fantastic Four movie has hired another cast member off of Netflix’s roster.
Paul Walter Hauser, who played the slightly age-inappropriate dojo denizen Stingray in karate dramedy Cobra Kai, will join fellow Netflix alumni Julia Garner (Ozark) and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) in director Matt Shakman’s MCU-official Fantastic Four movie.
While Garner and Quinn’s roles are known – Quinn plays Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Garner will play the Silver Surfer – Hauser’s role hasn’t been announced. Online speculation offered the possibility he could play the voice of the Four’s robot assistant Herbie, but nothing is definite now.
Hauser joins the few other announced cast members; in addition to Quinn and Garner, the movie will feature Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
The film is scheduled to premiere on July 25th, 2025, and will center on characters created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee for Marvel Comics in 1961. Shakman, who directed WandaVision, is directing the film from a script by Eric Pearson.
This is the fourth motion picture featuring the mutant-powered foursome, but the first film that will be canon in the MCU.
This is Hauser’s second big casting announcement this week; he was cast as Captain Ed in Paramount’s Naked Gun reboot. It was also announced that director Josh Gad’s Chris Farley biopic, with Hauser in the title role, sold to New Line Cinema.
He also voices a character in this summer’s Inside Out 2 and will appear opposite Matt Damon in Doug Liman’s movie The Instigators.
