Turn that frown upside down!

Or rather, don’t. It’s time to be creeped out by smiles and intense eye contact once again. Parker Finn’s followup to Smile, his 2022 hit about a demon-like creature that forces people to commit suicide after infecting them with a horrific (and insincere) smile will feature Naomi Scott as the lead, a Lady Gaga-style pop star.

Paramount Pictures’ logline for the film reads, “about to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.”

Finn wrote and directed the sequel to Smile, which was based on his short film Laura Hasn’t Slept. Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Isaac Klausner and Robert Salerno are producing. 2022’s Smile was about a psychiatrist who uncovered the phenomenon after treating an infected patient. The original grossed $216 million globally on a $17 million budget, and led to Finn signing a first-look deal with Paramount.

Kyle Gallner reprises his role in the first film as a police officer. In addition to Lukas Gage, who seems to expire in the trailer, the film also stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, Raúl Castillo, Dylan Gelula, and Ray Nicholson.

Smile 2 will be lighting up theaters on October 18th of this year.
