Being a stay-at-home-mom to a toddler can be a real bitch.

Or so Searchlight’s upcoming horror-comedy Nightbitch would have you believe. Amy Adams stars as a a woman thrown into the routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs, who finds herself filled with a mysterious and feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a…well, bitch. Literally.

In the trailer we see Adams, frazzled and exhausted, trying to keep it together despite her unruly child, incontinent pets, a husband who doesn’t get what she’s going through, and a mommy group who does know what she’s going through (they are in the same position) but who can’t admit that their lives aren’t as fulfilling as they wish them to be.

Adams’ character finds herself the darling of the neighborhood dog clique, and then her son tells her she’s getting “fuzzy”, and then she’s eating meat raw off the bone and burying it in the backyard.

The woman-becomes dog story comes from Marielle Heller, who wrote and directed A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and Can You Ever Forgive Me? Heller adapted a script from Rachel Yoder’s debut novel, which received praise from critics when it came out in 2021.

Nightbitch also stars Scoot McNair (Gone Girl), Jessica Harper (Suspiria), Zoë Chao (The Afterparty), Mary Holland (Happiest Season), and Archana Rajan.

Adams, Heller, Anne Carey, Sue Naegle, Stacy O’Neil and Christina Oh serve as producers for Nightbitch, which is being issued under the Annapurna banner and will be released by Searchlight.
