Unchecked: In Netflix Actioner ‘Carry-On’, Jason Bateman Exploits Emotional Baggage to Get Contraband on Plane
Netflix is debuting its airport-based thriller just in time to up your holiday travel season anxiety.
In Carry-On, bad guy Jason Bateman exploits the universal human weakness – our love of others – to get TSA agent Ethan Kopek (Taron Egerton) to look the other way when he puts a bag full of something explosive through the security screening.
While all the other passengers are taking off their shoes and belts, Bateman’s Traveler calls Kopek and threatens to kill someone he loves (Sofia Carson plays his girlfriend) if his package gets flagged for whatever the agent will see when he X-rays it.
In the trailer, the trouble escalates into terror and soon the Traveler is threatening the entire airport.
“You have 10 minutes before everybody in this airport dies,β Bateman says in voiceover in the trailer. βAll you have to do is nothing.β
Carry-On was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, The Shallows) from a script by TJ Fixman and Michael Green. Dean Norris stars as a fellow agent, along with Danielle Deadwyler, Theo Rossi, Tonatiuh, Logan Marshall-Green and Sinqua Walls. Dylan Clark produces for Amblin Entertainment.
Carry-On debuts on Netflix on December 13th.
