New York Comic Con was a mere four days long, but in that time we heard a lot of announcements about some of our favorite franchises. Here are the highlights.

At the Marvel Comics: Spider-Man and his Venomous Friends panel, Marvel shared what is next for Spider-Man, Venom, and others in the Spider-Verse in print. Executive Editor Nick Lowe and writer Joe Kelly debuted the “8 Deaths of Spider-Man” trailer. That story will begin in Amazing Spider-Man #61, out November 13th.

Senior Editor Jordan D. White, current Venom writer Al Ewing, and New York Times best-selling author Charles Soule also revealed the the Symbiote’s future, giving fans a first look at all-new Venom and the announcement of the second series spinning off from Venom War: Eddie Brock/Carnage.

In Star Wars news, there’s more to look for at the comic story as Qui-Gon Jinn is getting his own original graphic novel and the first look inside finds him at two key points in his life—when he was a Padawan of Count Dooku, and when he was a teacher to young Obi-Wan. Both stories are connected to the mysterious Brotherhood of the Ninth Door.

Marc Guggenheim will helm a new series called Marvel’s Star Wars: Jedi Knights that will explore the Jedi of the prequel era, prior to the events of Episode I. Guggenheim unveiled the covers for issue #1 featuring some of the Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, Yoda, and more from the series.

DC had a lot to crow about. First, there will be another comic book addition debuting on Max soon. An adult animation series called Creature Commandos will follow a black ops team made up of prisoners, the foundation of what will ultimately become the Suicide Squad.

In the timeline, it takes place after the events of the first season of the Peacemaker series, with Viola Davis reprising her role as Amanda Waller. The voice cast will include Sean Gunn, David Harbour, Alan Tudyk, and Indira Varma, and the trailer is above.

James Gunn dropped by New York Comic Con 2024 over the weekend to hang at a panel with the cast of Creature Commandos, and shared a bit about other upcoming DC Films projects like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

“Supergirl’s a mess,” Gunn said, affectionately. This incarnation of Supergirl will be based on the DC miniseries of the same name, which was written by Tom King and drawn by Bilquis Evely. In that series, Woman of Tomorrow begins with Supergirl flying a spaceship so far away from any yellow suns that her powers wear off, finally allowing her to get drunk.

Gunn called the production on Woman of Tomorrow “blessed from the beginning. [Screenwriter Ana Nogueira] came in and she pitched the story to me of Supergirl, and it was just one of the best pitches I’ve ever heard. She immediately wrote it. She came in with a first draft that was great, and it’s just gotten better and better. And then [director Craig Gillespie] has been incredibly easy to work with, and I can’t wait for that to come out.”

The Wolf Man trailer was the main event for Universal’s panel, offering fans their first real look at its reboot of the classic Universal Pictures monster movie. The trailer, which can you watch above, features Blake (Christopher Abbot) undergoing a terrifying transformation after a monster attack. This leaves his wife, Charlotte (Julia Garner), with a terrible choice to make in order to protect their daughter, Ginger (Matilda Firth). Universal also held a BlumFest panel on Friday, celebrating the studio’s 15th anniversary.

Adult Swim/Cartoon Network gave Rick and Morty fans a first-look at season 8, and there has been confirmation that the show has been renewed until season 12. Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen is on the record saying that “Dan (Harmon), Scott (Marder), and the rest of the immensely talented team behind Rick and Morty are constantly outdoing themselves and I’ll be joining the millions of fans around the world in looking forward to more adventures in the years to come.”

That keeps the dangerous duo on our screens at least until 2029, so there will be plenty more Rick and Morty to look forward to. Season 8 is expected to be released in 2025, so for now enjoy the rough animation cut sneak peek in the trailer above.

Max dropped the official trailer for Dune: Prophecy after only revealing teaser clips until now. The new series is expected to debut on November 17th and will focus on the supernatural sisterhood known as the Bene Gesserit. The action takes place 10,000 years prior to the events of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films and the series will consist of six episodes in total. It will and it’s an exciting place to pick up. The show will star Emily Watson and Olivia Williams as the sisterhood.

The Walking Dead universe has spawned numerous sequels, but Dead City was the first to officially follow the original series. Dead City returns for season two in 2025 with Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are back as Maggie Rhee and Negan Smith, respectively.

And last, but not least, there’s news from that other Star franchise, Star Trek. The Paramount panel at NYCC featured clips from both Strange New Worlds season 3 and Lower Decks season 5. Paramount Plus has said that Strange New Worlds will arrive in 2025, while Lower Decks arrives this October 24th. Sadly it will be the last season of the latter show. The trailer for the new season of Strange New Worlds is above.
