This isn’t a myth. Fans of NBC’s canceled drama Grimm have reason to celebrate as Peacock is developing a reboot of the 2011 NBC series, although as a movie, not a series. At least not so far.

Josh Berman (Drop Dead Diva) is writing the new take, which he is executive producing with the original series’ creative team, co-creators/executive producers and showrunners David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, and Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner working with Universal Television.

Peacock has not divulged the premise of the proposed Grimm movie, but it reportedly will have ties to the series, a must for diehard fans. However, word is that it will be accessible to new viewers not familiar with the original story by introducing new mythology and characters.

The original series followed Portland Homicide detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), who starts seeing so-called ‘normal’ people changing into mythological creatures. One of his last living relatives reveals that he is a Grimm – the latest in a line of guardians tasked with keeping the balance between humanity and mythological creatures, using force more than diplomacy, usually. He also worked with (and befriended) many of those creatures.

Though NBC launched Grimm on Friday nights, which typically get lower ratings, Grimm became a breakout hit its first season. The network ran it for six seasons, and the show was one of Friday’s highest-rated scripted series domestically, and it was also an overseas success for NBCUniversal.

There’s no word on who will be returning for the movie, or when it will go into production.
