It looks like the other Godzilla franchise might be taking some cues from Toho’s Godzilla Minus One.

Legendary Entertainment, the studio behind MonsterVerse movies like 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is in talks to hire Kaitlyn Dever (No One Will Save You, The Last of Us season 2) to the cast of the next entry in its Godzilla x Kong franchise.

According to the entertainment press, movie insiders say that while Kong and Godzilla will still be fronting the film, Legendary is looking to build on its human characters and is now looking to cast Dever, whose recent projects have seen her fighting both aliens and zombies.

It’s possible that this emphasis on human characters is a reaction to 2023’s Godzilla Minus One, released by Toho, which was a drama featuring humans battling their personal demons alongside Godzilla. It received worldwide critical acclaim upon its release. Godzilla Minus One won Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards, and was the first Godzilla film ever to be nominated for an Oscar in any category.

The new MonsterVerse movie is described as a continuation of the franchise centered on Godzilla, Kong and an assortment of other giant monsters. Grant Sputore will take over as director following the departure of Adam Wingard, who directed the last two Godzilla x Kong pics. Dave Callaham is the scriptwriter.

Warner Bros. has a MonsterVerse film on its release calendar on March 26th, 2027, which will probably prove to be the next Godzilla X Kong movie.
