After 57 years, it’s finally the end of the line for metal gods Black Sabbath* and they’re going out with a bang.

(*Probably…in 2017 the band went on its “The End” tour, so you never know.)

The band announced on social media Wednesday that the four original members of Black Sabbath – Ozzy Osbourne, Bill Ward, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler – will reunite for the “Back To The Beginning” heavy metal festival on July 5th at Villa Park in Birmingham, England.

This is big news considering Osbourne has not performed in recent years after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2019.

Tickets for the festival, should you wish to attend, will go on sale next week, with pre-sale tickets available February 12th and general public tickets for sale as of February 14th. The festival features a stacked lineup, including performances by Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice In Chains, Lamb Of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon.

Also performing are a “supergroup” consisting of Smashing Pumpkins’ front man Billy Corgan, Disturbed’s David Draiman, Guns N’ Roses’ Slash and Duff McKagan, Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, Korn’s Jonathan Davis, Sammy Hagar, and Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie van Halen.

Also performing at the festival is newly-minted Ghost frontman Papa V Perpetua, who replaces Papa Emeritus IV, who retired without a replacement 2023. The band low-key announced the news in a Facebook post Wednesday.

This is, as fans know, a bit of theater as lead singer Tobias Forge regularly adopts a new stage persona at the beginning of every new tour.

The Grammy Award-winning goth-metal band starts its next tour on April 15th in Manchester, UK at the AO Arena.
