Movie Buzz: Ari Aster and Yorgos Lanthimos Team for ‘Bugonia’, a Tale of Aliens, Bees, and Conservation
How best to stop a pharmaceutical CEO bent on destroying the world? (Aside from the obvious way, of course.)
In the trailer for Bugonia, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and produced by Ari Aster, we see Teddy (Jesse Plemons) a beekeeper convinced Michelle (played by Lanthimos favorite Emma Stone), the wealthy CEO who runs the company where he’s employed as an underpaid worker bee, is really an alien. Teddy convinces his friend and fellow conspiracy-junkie (Aidan Delbis) to help him kidnap her to…well, it’s hard to tell from the trailer, but saving the planet is his goal.
Bugonia is an English-language remake of South Korean filmmaker Jang Joon-hwan’s Save the Green Planet!, which came out in 2003. Will Tracy, who wrote the script for The Menu.
Lanthimos and Stone last worked together on Kinds of Kindness (which also starred Plemons) and the well-received Poor Things, for which Stone earned a Best Actress Oscar in 2024.

Aster, best known for his arty horror films Midsommar and Hereditary, is producing. This is the first collaboration between the two, both known for their avant-garde styles and off-center subject matter.
Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone also star.
Bugonia will be in select theaters on October 24th and will buzz into theaters nationwide on October 31st.
