Benoit Blanc has been taken to church.

The third in Netflix’s Knives Out mysteries sees Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) taking on his toughest case yet: a locked-room mystery where the victim, a priest, is somehow killed while alone in a church confessional as dozens of parishioners sit outside.

In the trailer for Wake Up Dead Man: a Knives Out Mystery, we meet the ensemble cast of victims and/or suspects, including Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack and Thomas Haden Church.

The follow-up 2022’s to Glass Onion: a Knives Out Mystery takes place in the holiest of places: church. “After a sudden and seemingly impossible murder rocks the town, the lack of an obvious suspect prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott (Kunis) to join forces with renowned detective Benoit Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic,” reads the movie’s official synopsis.

Blanc is helped in his investigation by a young priest played by Josh O’Connor, essentially assuming the role played by Ana de Armas in Blanc’s first adventure, Knives Out from 2019.

In the trailer, we see the set-up to the murder and Benoit’s reaction in the aftermath.

“To understand this case, you need to look at the myth that’s being constructed,” Blanc says. “A man gives a sermon. He then, in plain sight of everyone, walks into a sealed concrete box. Thirty seconds later, that man is lying dead. A classic, impossible crime.”

Writer/director Rian Johnson once again penned the script and helmed the entry in his successful franchise.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this past weekend, so the entertainment press reviews are already up. The rest of us will have to wait until November 26th to catch in in select theaters or December 12th to stream the film at home.
