‘Jurassic Park’ Now: Mission to Recover Missing Green Berets Finds Unexpected (and Impossible) Foes
This isn’t your father’s Apocalypse Now. It’s not his Jurassic Park either – it’s actually a mix of both.
All the familiar beats are there in the trailer for Primitive War, which is coming to VOD next month after a brief theatrical release: choppers, gun fights, a nighttime mission in the jungle, “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival blasting in the background. But what’s hiding in the trees isn’t the Viet Cong; it’s a bevy of killer dinosaurs. Um, what?
What is mysterious scientist Tricia Helfer doing with those dinosaurs? How will the soldiers, including Nick Wechsler and Ryan Kwanten take out these unconventional enemies? Did commanding officer Jeremy Piven know what he was sending his men into when he charged them with recovering his missing Green Beret officers?
It may not matter. Primitive War looks to be a cut above silly Asylum fare like Shark Side of the Moon, given the cast and the fact that it’s being released by Samuel Goldwin Films rather than being this month’s featured Tubi original. And though the effects aren’t perfect, it seems like a fun way to entertain the attendees of your next bad movie watch party.

Samuel Goldwyn Films.
Based on the book of the same name by Ethan Pettus, Primitive War was directed by Ethan Sparke and also stars Anthony Ingruber, Aaron Glenane, Carlos Sanson Jr., Ana Thu Nguyen, Adolphus Waylee, Marcus Johnson and Jake Ryan.
Primitive War grossed around $1 million dollars when it was in theaters for a limited run. It will be available on October 3rd to watch at home, and you can pre-order your copy at Cineverse’s website. A DVD/Blu-ray release is still pending.
