Meet George Jetson? Jim Carrey in Talks to Star in Live-Action Movie of Spacey Hanna-Barbera Series

Flexible funnyman Jim Carrey may be Spacely Space Sprockets newest employee.
The actor is reportedly in talks to take on the role of George Jetson, the space-age counterpart of cartoon caveman Fred Flintstone, in a live action movie based on the 1960s-era cartoon The Jetsons.
Warner Bros. Pictures is making the movie with Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World: Dominion) attached to direct, and perhaps co-write the script with Joe Epstein.
Carrey has played live-action versions of animated characters before, appearing as Dr. Robotnik in Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog films and has had his characters from Ace Ventura and The Mask turned into the headliners of animated series based on those movies.
The Jetsons have been on the big screen before, in the 1990 animated feature Jetsons: The Movie. But unlike The Flintstones, which has had a couple live-action movies based on the show, the out-of-this-world adventures of the first family of the stratosphere haven’t been made as a live-action project, though the idea has hit the pre-production planning stage numerous times over the years, including in 2017 when ABC considered a live-action series.
The Jetsons debuted in 1962 on ABC and aired 24 episodes through the following year. The show was considered a commercial and critical flop, but was revived with a syndication run airing 51 episodes between 1985 and 1987.
The show, set somewhere in the technologically advanced future, followed the adventures of a nuclear family living in Orbit City where flying cars, robot housemaids, friendly aliens and other whimsical imaginings of what the future might possibly look like were part of everyday life.
Warner Bros. did not comment on the news, and there’s no word on what the movie’s storyline may be, nor who will play George Jetson’s family: Jane, his wife, daughter Judy or his boy, Elroy.
