Very few things indeed are really impossible – like Sabrina Carpenter going from Man’s Best Friend to a leading lady.

The Grammy-nominated singer will star and produce a musical based on Lewis Carroll’s children’s classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. This is Carpenter’s first leading role in a major studio release.

Lorene Scarfaria (Hustlers, Succession) will direct and Marc Platt will produce for Universal.

Carpenter has just added more dates to her Short n’ Sweet tour, and recently was nominated for six Grammy awards for her seventh studio album Man’s Best Friend.

Carpenter’s has acted before – her resume includes Emergency on Prime Video, the indie drama The Short History of the Long Road, and the Tall Girl films from Netflix. She also appeared in Disney+’s Clouds and 20th Century Fox’s The Hate U Give. Most recently, she signed on to guest star in a Muppet Show special to air on Disney+ next year, which if successful could serve as the pilot to a new series.

The project, which so far is untitled, will be based on the Lewis Carroll book, which is in the public domain, and not on the 1951 Disney film Alice in Wonderland.

No other details are known at this time.
