Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has a new moniker: Maynard.

That’s what we learned from Sony’s presentation CinemaCon event, going on this week in Las Vegas. Studio types and stars have assembled to show off their slate of upcoming movies, and we’ve picked up a few tidbits of information from the panels and trailers shown there.

In a trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day the webslinger formerly known as Peter Parker revealed his new pseudonym: Maynard. Spidey gave up his entire existence to save the world in his last film, but he’s still checking in on his old life. Sony’s footage showed Parker, played by Tom Holland, attending a party where his old flame MJ (Zendaya) was in attendance with a new guy. He learns that another party guest is attempting to locate Spider-Man, and has even created an app to help him.

Holland appeared at the panel for the film virtually, and told the assembled crowd, ““I’m sure you’ve seen how big and fun the film is from the trailer and a lot we did in new ways,” he said. “This is the most emotional Spider-Man we’ve ever made and in some ways, the most grown up.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31st. Sony also brought out footage from their other Spider-Man property, the animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Sony announced that Beyond the Spider-Verse is now slated to hit theaters one week earlier than what was previously announced, on June 18th, 2027. It will pick up immediately following the ending of Across the Spider-Verse ended, when Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) bumped into The Prowler, his Earth-42 iteration. The third film in the trilogy deals with Miles’ struggle to cross time and space to return to his Earth and save his family, as The Prowler does his best to stop him. Beyond the Spider-Verse has been optimized for IMAX screens with a 1:43:1 aspect ratio, unusual for an animated film.

The next film in the Jumanji franchise has a name: Jumanji: Open World.

Sony’s trailer showed Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan the real world as stilted versions of the video game avatars they play. Alex Wolff’s character explains of the characters, “They’re stuck in demo mode.”

Johnson, Black and Hart all took the stage for the presentation. Hart told the crowd, “We are pumped about being back for another Jumanji.” Black said, “I’ve never had more fun working on a movie. This is my favorite so far.” Johnson told the crowd they used Robin Williams’ dice from the 1995 Jumanji movie, and paid homage to the late star.

Jumanji: Open World is due out on Christmas Day.

Weapons and Barbarian director Zach Creegan was on hand to talk about his next project: Sony’s new Resident Evil film. He explained his approach to his movie, saying he ‘played a shitload of Resident Evil‘ and wanted to capture the atmosphere, pacing, and even the resource management of the games. He also added that unlike Weapons, it has no time jumps or alternate character perspectives, just one single protagonist going from Point A to Point B ‘in a world that is hellbent on destroying them’”

The attendees got to see a bit of the new film, showing star Austin Abrams entering a home and calling his girlfriend, leaving an answering machine message saying, “I’m really sorry that we got disconnected earlier, but some things have happened. I’m in a seriously fucked up situation right now and it looks like there’s a chance we might not get to talk to each other again.”

Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson also star. Cregger directed from a script he co-wrote with Shay Hatten. The film will be released on September 18th of this year.

Sony also announced that it will produce an R-rated film based on the videogame Bloodborne, showed a new trailer for its Insidious movie, due out August 21st, and updated fans on films like The Social Reckoning, The Legend of Zelda, Buds, Klara and the Sun, The Nightingale, and Grandgear.
