Don’t you hate when you find the perfect job teaching music to a mask-wearing young girl, but then the rich family you work for tries to scare, seduce, and or straight up murder you?

Maybe that experience isn’t part of your CV, but for Laila, played by Chloe Bailey (Grown-ish), that’s exactly what she faces in Strung, a new thriller from Tyler Perry for Blumhouse that comes to Peacock next month.

The film’s official description is Laila, “a talented violinist takes a prestigious job as a music tutor for Sari (Romy Woods), the gifted daughter of an influential and enigmatic family. As she becomes entangled in their opulent world, unsettling secrets begin to surface, forcing her to question her safety, her dreams, and even her sanity.”

In the trailer, when Laila meets Sari, she’s wearing a white mask (see below) that obscures all but her eyes. Sari seems normal enough despite the mask, that is until she drops ominous warnings like this one: “The Zulu believe that if you die in your dreams, you die in real life. Be careful what you dream,” she says.

Later, Sari tells Laila that her mother will sometimes do bad things” when she “gets mad, and towards the end, Laila promises to take care of the little girl.

“I don’t need help,” Sari says, before adding “but I think you will” in a menacing tone.

We also see various members of the ultra-wealthy extended family trying to either turn Laila on, or terrorizing her.

Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip, The Best Man) directs the film from a script by Alan D. McElroy (The Wrong Turn, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers), which also stars Lynn Whitfield, Lucien Laviscount, Anna Diop, Langley Kirkwood, and singer-actress Coco Jones.

Strung debuts on Peacock on June 26th.
