Two trailers dropped Tuesday, and they have more in common than just their names: one of those films follows a group of disaffected young people whose actions turn violent, and the other follows a pair of disaffected musicians known for their angry public outbursts.

In the trailer for Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger, we see clips from the popular ’90s alt-rock band on stage in the present time as well as in their what’s-the-story-morning-glory days. Liam and Noel Gallagher, the brotherly duo from Manchester whose on- and off-stage antics provided lots of tabloid fodder and were a factor in the band’s 2009 break-up.

The film charts the band’s reunion for the Oasis Live ’25 tour in what Disney, who is distributing the film, calls “an unapologetically uplifting account of the biggest musical event of 2025, capturing the experience and emotions of the band and their fans across the world. The unique perspective includes rehearsal, backstage, and onstage access as well as the first joint interview with Noel and Liam in over 20 years. Alongside the band’s sold-out world tour, the film also explores the profound emotional impact of this phenomenal global cultural moment and what their music means to audiences and generations worldwide.”

Though the trailer doesn’t shy away from the battling brothers, the tone is more about burying the hatchet and moving on. At one point, we hear Liam Gallagher say “the way it finished … unacceptable … it didn’t sit right with me.” Later on in the clip, Noel Gallagher suggests that the 2025 tour represented a moment to “change the narrative of the band.”

Don’t Look Back in Anger was directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, known for the LCD Soundsystem doc Shut Up And Play the Hits. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight produced the movie, which will be featured at the Venice Film Festival before opening in cinemas worldwide, including on IMAX screens, on September 11th.

Also appearing at the Venice Film Festival, and sure to baffle at least one attendee, is a film called simply Oasis.

Oasis, directed by Jannis Lenz, follows a group of students looking for a safe place in an unsafe world. The official description reads “When a viral video of a student threatening his classmates surfaces online, the school spirals into escalating violence. Crushed by the pressure of teachers and parents, three outcasts take refuge in a nearby forest. There, play hardens into ritual and pain becomes an escape, until old wounds surface and the boundaries between them are redrawn.”

The film is in German, and the trailer has English subtitles. Lenz co-wrote the script with Alexander Dirninger. The film stars Florian Geißelmann, Anton Petzold and Mathilda Smidt as the outcasts, along with Godehard Giese, Britta Hammelstein, and Ioana Iacob.

Oasis will debut at the Venice Film Festival on September 6th, the day after Don’t Look Back in Anger premieres.
