D23 Roundup: Gosling’s ‘Ghost Rider’ Gets 2028 Premiere Date, ‘VisionQuest’ and Incoming X-Men Class Introduced

Here’s a quick roundup of the superhero news from Disney’s D23 conference from this past weekend.
Ryan Gosling is still playing the character of Ghost Rider, and now that movie has an opening date: July 28th, 2028. It will be sandwiched in-between the X-Men movie (more on that later) coming out on May 5th, 2028, and Black Panther 3, set to debut on December 15th of that year.
Shawn Levy will direct the movie but not much more about it is known at this early date. The project was announced last month at San Diego Comic Con.
Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige introduced the new X-Men line-up, which includes the already-revealed (spoiler if you haven’t seen Spider-Man: Brand New Day) Sadie Sink as Jean Grey.
Sink, along with director Jack Schreier, introduced the rest of the cast for the upcoming movie. This includes Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. After that, Adam Driver took the stage to announce his role as Nathaniel Milbury, a “sinister figure” according to the Marvel website.
More cast will be revealed later, and as we said before, the as-yet-untitled film is coming in May of 2028.
And finally, the trailer for the Disney TV+ series VisionQuest was revealed.
Starring Paul Bettany and James Spader, both on hand for D23, VisionQuest brings back WandaVision star Bettany as Vision, now on his own following the events of that show. Spader plays Ultron, the character he voiced in the Avengers movie Age of Ultron.
The Marvel press site says it better than we could: “When VisionQuest begins, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron’s influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.”

In addition to Spader and Bettany, VisionQuest stars Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, with Emily Hampshire, and James D’Arcy. It was directed by Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro, Vincenzo Natali, and Terry Matalas, and written by Terry Matalas, Cindy Appel, Christopher Monfette, Nicole Falsetti, and Matthew Okumura.
VisionQuest premieres on October 14th on Disney+.
