After 30+ years Netflix returns us to the same school, but it’s still A Different World.

Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) are back on campus at Hillman – but this time they are there as parents of an incoming student, their daughter Deborah (Maleah Joi Moon) for the new series coming to Netflix.

And unfortunately for Deborah, her parents will be hovering over her as she tries to make her own way at Hillman. In the clip, Deborah meets her new roommate, who hails from Compton, which prompts Whitley to stage-whisper “watch her” to her unamused daughter.

Dwayne and Whitley won’t be the only familiar faces on campus: in the clip we see Debbie Allen as Dr. Langhorne, who counsels Deborah, along with Darryl M. Bell as Ron, who is also dropping his son off at school. Cree Summer, Jenifer Lewis, and Jada Pinkett Smith are also reprising their roles in the reboot. Newcomers include Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Kennedi Reece, Joshua Suiter, Jordan Aaron Hall and Chibuikem Uche.

A Different World was created by showrunner, writer and executive producer Felicia Pride. Allen, who was a director and producer on the original run, returns to executive and produce the sequel’s premiere. The original was a spinoff from The Cosby Show as a vehicle for Lisa Bonet’s character Denise Huxtable, who departed at the end of the first season of ADW. In total, it ran for six seasons on NBC, from 1987-1993.

A Different World premieres on Netflix on September 24th.
