In today’s casting news, Jennifer Lawrence and Zach Cregger are bracing for a Flood, Jane Levy will be holding her breath once again, and Madeleine Arthur will be at her most vulnerable in Doula.

Lawrence is headlining Flood, a new sort-of-horror movie from Weapons and Barbarian director Zach Cregger. Cregger told fans during a Reddit AMA session not to expect a full-on horror film. “Flood is not quite as horror central as the other movies (altho it might be the most unsettling) and it does have horror moments and aspects.”

What Flood will have in common with its predecessors is the signature POV switching Cregger favors. ” Like Barbarian and Weapons, it doesn’t jump perspective, but it structurally is, I think, dexterous,” he said.

Cregger didn’t reveal much about the movie’s plot, but we do have the following tidbit: “The sci-fi thriller follows a crew on a remote space station who discover an alien object that distorts time, reality and the mind.” Flood, like Weapons, will be a Warner Bros. movie, and Creggar said he was very happy about that – and about working with JLaw.

“Mike, Pam and the whole Warner Bros./New Line team were an absolute dream to collaborate with on Weapons, and I couldn’t be happier to dive in with them again. Jennifer is one of a kind, and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role,” he said during his session.

Flood is scheduled for a 2028 release.

Jane Levy may have skipped the sequel to 2016’s Don’t Breathe, where she starred as one of a trio of delinquents breaking into the home of a blind veteran, but she’s back on board for Don’t Breathe 3.

She’ll be joined by Stephen Lang, who played Levy’s not-so-defenseless victim in the thriller. The news comes from Fede Alvarez, who directed the 2016 original. (Rodo Sayagues, who co-wrote the original, directed 2021’s Don’t Breathe 2.)

Alvarez announced on stage during a Beyond Fest Q&A over the weekend that “there’s a screenplay for Don’t Breathe 3 and both Levy and Lang will be returning for the third film!”

Don’t Breathe 2 continued the story of the Blind Man (Lang), while the whereabouts of Jane Levy’s character Rocky was not disclosed in that film. Don’t Breathe 3 should continue both of their stories, but not much more is known about the film yet, and no release date has been set.

And finally, Madeleine Arthur, who endured a Lovecraftian cosmic experience with Nicolas Cage in 2020’s Color Out of Space, will face another kind of body horror in Doula. Arthur will play a pregnant woman in an isolated cabin with only a midwife (Dianne Doan, Warrior) at her side.

Goldie Jones is the writer/director for Doula, the official description of which reads “Inspired by strange true events, a doula arrives at an isolated mountain cabin to help with a difficult delivery, only to become trapped alongside her pregnant client in a sadistic, reality-bending game where escape may come at a terrible price.”

Principal photography on Doula is set to begin on October 1st in Winnipeg, Manitoba. No release date or other casting details are known at this time, but James J Yi is producing.
