Unearthing the Sequel: Fraser and Weisz Are Back on Set for New ‘Mummy’ Adventure Titled ‘Book of the Dead’

Photographers spotted Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser on the set of the upcoming sequel to The Mummy franchise, the title of which was officially announced on Thursday.
The fourth* film in the beloved series of films starring Brendan Fraser will be titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead.
(*Radio Silence, the directing team helming the Book of the Dead project, have stated that the third Mummy film, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is not canon. Rachel Weisz did not appear in that one; her role was played by Maria Bello.)
The on-set photos were taken in London, where some of the new film’s action presumably takes place, and published on Instagram. Judging from the costumes Fraser and Weisz are wearing, the action takes place in the 1950s.
As already reported, Book of the Dead is set to open in a year, on October 15th, 2027. David Coggeshall has penned the script, and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (aka Radio Silence) will direct. Returning cast members include John Hannah, Kevin J. O’Connor, Arnold Vosloo, and Oded Fehr. New cast members include Obsession‘s Michael Johnston and Numan Acar.
No plot details are known as yet, but it will continue the story of 1999’s The Mummy and its sequel, 2001’s The Mummy Returns. Those films are modern takes on the old Universal monster original, 1932’s The Mummy, which starred Boris Karloff.
