A new movie and a new streaming series based on a beloved movie will help you explore the vastness of the universe, the depths of the ocean, and the far-flung future.

In Above the Below, Idris Elba not only stars but co-directs this space-survival thriller. According to the official tagline, “After three astronauts survive a disaster in space, their unscheduled crash-landing leaves them trapped in the crushing depths of the ocean with no contact with mission control and oxygen rapidly running out. In a race against time where every breath could be their last, the crew faces impossible choices, mounting odds, and new dangers in this pulse-pounding story about what we do when faced with the greatest stakes imaginable.”

Elba plays Jackson, one of the astronauts, and in the trailer we see him help fellow astronaut/pilot Brooks, played by Catilin FitzGerald, as they put on their suits, helmets and oxygen tanks in preparation for a plunge into the ocean. The tension mounts as they both sink into the sea.

The trailer ends with Jackson asking an inevitable question in the middle of a deadly race against time – “How hard would you fight to stay alive?”

Also in the cast are Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Rhodes. Martin Owen co-directed with Elba, and the screenplay is by Elizabeth Morris, Matt Mitchell, and Vicki Sargent.
