The Slayers are back in business – and so is their frenemy Spike.

James Marsters will reprise his role as the sarcastic, some might say sexy, vampire Spike from the WB/UPN classic show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and he’s reuniting with some of the Scoobies (although not Sarah Michelle Gellar as the title character.)

Slayers: A Buffyverse Story will be set 20 years after the series finale, with Marsters once again playing Spike, alongside Charisma Carpenter, Anthony Head as Giles, Juliet Landau, Emma Caulfield (Anya), Amber Benson (Tara), James Charles Leary (Clem) and Danny Strong (Jonathan), as well as newcomer Laya DeLeon Hayes.

Slayers follows Spike who has gone deep undercover in Los Angeles, “convincing the forces of darkness that he’s back to his evil ways,” according to the official description. “But when his cover is compromised by 16-year-old Indira Nunnally (Hayes), Spike finds himself on baby-slayer-sitting duty once more. While he attempts to track down a watcher for his eager new protégé, their paths collide with the veteran Slayer of a parallel reality where Buffy Summers (Gellar) never existed and Cordelia Chase (Carpenter) is the one-and-only Slayer. And Cordelia needs Spike’s help with a classic big bad terrorizing her world… his old flame, Drusilla (Laundau).”

Slayers: A Buffyverse Story was written by Benson and Christopher Golden, and directed by Benson, Golden, and Kc Wayland.

Marsters said of the project, “I’m ecstatic to be back with my dear friends for this next chapter in the Buffyverse, as we take listeners on a familiar but unexpected journey chock full of horror, passion and mischief. I’m excited for old and new fans to experience this beloved world of vampire slaying like never before, brought to life through immersive audio storytelling.”

Though audiobooks and podcasts are not impacted by the work stoppages of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, Slayers: A Buffyverse Story was written and produced prior to the beginning of either strike.

The audio-only story will be released on Audible and nowhere else beginning October 12th. NYC fans can attend New York Comic Con which is featuring a panel about the show on October 13th at 1:30pm ET, and for everyone else, Audible will launch a Slayers-themed activation all weekend long.
