It’s the time of year when we celebrate men…well, one man, at least.

John Krasinski, possibly still best known for his nearly decade-long role as Jim Halpert on The Office, joins the ranks of Denzel Washington, Chris Hemsworth, Channing Tatum, and his former Office co-star Idris Elba as the “Sexiest Man Alive,” as always, chosen by People magazine.

The announcement was made on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, with Krasinski appearing on the show and in a short video where Krasinski gave Colbert tips on how to be sexy, all while wearing ’80s workout togs. The video also features a brief cameo from former SMA Chris Evans.

People reported that when Krasinski received the good news, it blew his mind. “Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts,” he said when the magazineinterviewed for the cover story. “Other than maybe I’m being punked. That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’ And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me.”

Krasinski also said that though he’s viewed as, per the People writeup, “as a crush-worthy, prank-loving paper salesman [The Office], or an intense former Marine turned CIA agent [Jack Ryan], or a devoted family man sacrificing himself for love [A Quiet Place], the actor, 45, prefers just being a husband and father, who binges Netflix documentaries and relishes bedtime stories with his kids.”

Krasinski is married to actress Emily Blunt, and said she was “very excited” when she heard the big news: “There was a lot of joy involved in me telling her.”

Krasinski said Blunt joked that she would wallpaper their house with the People cover if her husband received the crown. “Do we have that on camera? Because that’s like a binding contract, I think,” he said in the interview. “My children will love that, it won’t be weird at all.”

Krasinski also joshed that his chore load may increase at home for the next year.

While Krasinski may seem an unlikely choice for the “Sexiest Man Alive” honors, the affable, good natured character from The Office turned himself into pure man-meat for a role in Paramount’s 13 Hours, then kept his muscly physique for his turn on the action-heavy Jack Ryan series for Prime Video.

Krasinski’s next project, aside from carrying out his “SMA” duties, will be starring in Guy Ritchie’s Fountain of Youth, currently in post-production, and working on a theatrical movie based on the Jack Ryan series for Prime Video.
