The Return of Con: Marvel Will Have A Presence At San Diego Comic Con, Feige Promises
Marvel Pres Kevin Feige teased more than the plot of Thor: Love and Thunder at a press conference held on Friday.
During the virtual presser, Feige confirmed that the studio will return to San Diego Comic Con, which is taking place this July after the event was canceled in 2020 and 2021. (A scaled-down Comic Con took place in November of last year, and Marvel did not participate in that or any of the virtual events that happened in lieu of a full convention these past two years.)
“We’ll be at Comic-Con next month, which we’re excited about,” said Feige, according to multiple reports. “So yes, we’re excited to go and talk about the future.” The studio was there in 2019, and coincidentally, one of the big topics at that time was also the new Thor movie.
Feige didn’t say what would be promoted at SDCC this year, but there are any number of announced projects to hype. Marvel panels tend to generate a lot of social media buzz, so even if you can’t attend, you’ll be able to keep up by scanning Instagram et al.
Upcoming theatrical releases include Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 11th), Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17th, 2023), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5th, 2023), The Marvels (July 28th, 2023) and the Mahershala Ali version of Blade.
Upcoming TV projects include the animated I Am Groot (August 10th), She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (August 17th), along with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Echo, Secret Invasion, Agatha: House of Darkness, Armor Wars, Ironheart and X-Men ’97.
San Diego Comic-Con is taking place this year from July 21st-24th. Thor: Love and Thunder, from director Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, hits theaters on July 8th.
